📄 Supporting Statements:
Please read each applicant’s personal statement carefully before voting. These statements outline their experience, vision, and passion for respiratory care and research.
I am JJ Hudson-Colby, a Clinical Academic Physiotherapist at The Respiratory Centre, University Hospital Southampton and the University of Southampton. I lead the Breathing Pattern Disorder (BrPD) service, alongside Airway Clearance, Home Ventilation, and Cough services. As an NIHR ARC intern, I am involved in the LIBERTY study and hope to apply for a PhD to further investigate the management of BrPD in chronic respiratory conditions, focusing on co-designed interventions that combine BrPD management with exercise.
My experience as a respiratory physiotherapist spans continents, clinical practice, research, and teaching both medical students and physiotherapists. My strong organisational and collaborative skills enable me to fulfil my three roles effectively while managing family life. I am passionate about building a national community of practice to share clinical expertise, service models, and benchmarking strategies—aiming to improve care and outcomes for patients with long-term respiratory conditions.
I am especially motivated to develop a national community of practice through the ACPRC—one that fosters inclusivity, clinical excellence, and shared learning. My vision is to move beyond siloed, condition-specific services and instead focus on the common skills and strategies that benefit all patients with chronic respiratory disease. This approach will help unify care pathways, aligning with the NHS 10-year plan and promoting more consistent, high-quality management across various settings.
Thank you for considering my nomination for Long-Term Conditions Champion. With your support, I am confident in my ability to advance this role and foster meaningful change.
