The British Thoracic society has published a risk stratification tool. This is to support clinicians in their decision-making and when offering clinical advice to those patients who may be affected by this issue.
In addition to this, NHS England and NHS Improvement has published some frequently asked questions to support teams, particularly around the registration of these devices. It is vital that organisations register devices as the stock levels of alternative devices provided by Philips will be dictated by the number of registered devices. Please note, the registration process has two parts, the first is acknowledging the FSN and listing the number of products your organisation is registering and the second part listing the devices by serial number and indicating whether the device is active or not.
If you receive your Phillips devices as part of a managed sleep services contract (as opposed to buying devices) then Trusts should carefully review their service terms and conditions and seek whatever additional support may be available from Phillips to maintain service levels.
The supply and distribution of alternative devices is being managed by NHS Supply Chain and can be requested for allocation. The guidance associated with the process of requesting allocation of alternative devices, including timeline for orders can be found here. The webform link, to submit requests is here. We would request that Trusts complete as much detail as they can on clinical rationale, especially around the number of new patients per week. This information can also be found in the Important Customer Notice that was issued by NHS Supply Chain.
