Fiona Howroyd is a senior team lead physiotherapist specialising in critical care at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, with over 15 years of NHS experience. She is currently undertaking a fixed-term secondment as a research physiotherapist in critical care and is in the final year of her PhD at the University of Birmingham. Her specialist interests focus on rehabilitation and recovery following critical illness.
Alongside her clinical and research roles, Fiona is a Visiting Lecturer in critical care physiotherapy at both the University of Birmingham and University College Birmingham. She is also Hub Facilitator for the West Midlands Community for Allied Health Professions Research (CAHPR), supporting clinicians to develop their research skills and confidence.
In January 2026, Fiona joined the ACPRC Committee as Research Champion. She is passionate about improving patient care through audit, service evaluation and high-quality research and is committed to supporting ACPRC members at every stage of their research journey.
